Sustainability Charter: Tripod Coffee’s Pillars for a Greener Future

Welcome to Tripod Coffee's Sustainability Charter 2024

At Tripod Coffee, we believe that great coffee and a healthy planet can go hand in hand. Our Sustainability Charter for 2024 outlines our comprehensive commitment to creating a sustainable future through responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. This charter is a testament to our dedication to sustainable practices that not only enhance the quality of our coffee but also protect and nurture the environment and communities we depend on.

We invite you to explore this charter and join us on our journey towards a more sustainable and equitable world. Together, we can make a meaningful difference, one cup of coffee at a time.

Thank you for supporting Tripod Coffee and our commitment to sustainability.

Our Mission

Tripod Coffee is committed to ethical sourcing, green-energy manufacturing, locally sourced materials, and innovative, 100% home-compostable pods. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint, promote composting, support reforestation, and educate consumers on sustainable practices. We’ll help Australia lead the global coffee industry in eco-friendly coffee solutions.

Pillars of Our Sustainability Charter

Ethical & Sustainable Sourcing of Coffee - RFA (Rainforest Alliance Certified)

Where possible we are committed to sourcing Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee, supporting environmentally responsible farming practices that protect biodiversity and improve livelihoods. This ensures that our coffee is grown under conditions that promote ecological balance and enhance the well-being of farmers and their communities.

Powering Manufacturing Facility with Green-Energy Sources & Solar

Our manufacturing facilities are powered by renewable energy sources, including solar panels, to minimise environmental impact. By utilising green energy, we significantly reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Using Locally Sourced Materials

Where possible we prioritise local suppliers for our materials, reducing transportation emissions and supporting the local economy. This not only helps to lower our carbon footprint but also strengthens our connection with the community by supporting local businesses.

Plant-Based Pods Certified 100% Home-Compostable

Our pods are made from100% plant-based materials that break down in home compost systems, unlike many competitors that may use biodegradable but not fully compostable materials. This supports a circular economy, allowing consumers to compost the pods at home, reducing waste and enriching their soil.
Carbon Footprint Conscious - Direct from Manufacturer
We are conscious of our carbon footprint and work to reduce it through direct-from-manufacturer shipping and introducing carbon offsets. This helps us minimise our environmental impact and contribute to global carbon reduction efforts.

Pod 2 Plant Returns Program

For those who are unable to compost at home we encourage customers to return used pods, which are then composted by us. This program helps divert waste from landfills and supports our commitment to sustainability.

ReForest Now Program

Through our partnership with ReForest now we are sponsoring reforestation projects to restore ecosystems and increase carbon capture. By planting trees, we contribute to the restoration of natural habitats and the fight against climate change.

Working to Reduce Packaging Footprint

We aim to use less material in our packaging and improve packaging design to be more efficient and sustainable. This includes transitioning to fully compostable packaging solutions where possible, working toward increasing pack sizes and educating consumers on how to dispose of packaging materials responsibly.

Truly Home Compostable Materials

Our pods are made from materials that are certified home compostable in-home environments under Australian conditions. This contrasts with less sustainable options offered by competitors and emphasises the environmental benefits, such as reduced landfill waste and soil enrichment without chemical residues.
Innovators - Use of the First Home Compostable Capsule in Market
We pride ourselves on being the first to market with home compostable capsules, positioning us as leaders in sustainability. This innovation sets a benchmark in the industry and highlights our commitment to environmental responsibility.

ABA Certification – AS 5810

Achieving Australian Bioplastics Association certification ensures that our materials meet stringent biodegradability and compostability standards for Australia. This certification guarantees that our products are environmentally friendly and safe for composting in local conditions.

Compostable vs Biodegradable - Educate on the Difference

We educate consumers on the difference between compostable and biodegradable materials. Compostable materials break down into non-toxic, beneficial compost, whereas biodegradable materials simply break down, sometimes leaving behind residue. This knowledge empowers consumers to make more informed and sustainable choices.

Our Commitment

Tripod Coffee's Sustainability Charter is not just a set of guidelines; it embodies our "Consciously Caffeinated" ethos. We are committed to leading by example and inspiring others in the coffee industry to adopt sustainable practices. By working together with our partners, customers, and employees, we can create a future where exceptional coffee and environmental sustainability coexist harmoniously.
